This was possibly the saddest thing I have ever seen. My house cat has more space than the tiger and the lions... and I live in an apartment. Virtually every animal there is extremely cramped and seems sad. DO NOT GO TO THE BIRMINGHAM ZOO!!!! more

The stench when you arrive should be a warning, the price at the gate a complete turnoff. Have been to the Bronx zoo, have been to London Zoo and have been to the zoo in Nebraska and all I can say of the Birmingham zoo is, cruel. They actually have an entire exhibit entitled something like 'sociable creatures' and the... more
The Birmingham Zoo was cute, clean, had a pretty good assortment of animals to look at. The thing I feel I have to note is this... There are lots of cool 'extras' to do, trains, camel rides, bird feeding, carousel, foam pit. They look like tons of fun. But they all cost extra. And not just a few dollars. I... more
Well its not the Audubon. But I found this zoo to be quite enjoyable. It was clean and had a lot of unique animals. All of the cages were clean and the animals looked healthy. Its was a good way to kill some time. more
Getting better, had some very poor years. Birmingham does have some great attractions, the zoo is not one of them. If you are staying for a prolonged visit - try it. If you want the best in this area try Montgomery Zoo - about 100 miles south. more
My wife and I took a trip to Birmingham because we've been on a zoo kick of late and we wanted to see what this zoo was like. It was also the only place withng a 4 hr drive that wasn't getting rain in biblical proportions, but that's neither here nor there. In a word... great. We were very happy... more
Okay folks this is Birmingham, not Atlanta, New York or San Diego. I think this zoo is a nice asset to the area. The zoo has an animal petting area for children. The zoo is logically laid out with easy to follow paths. All ages will find something nice. Link to the website for further information. DEH more
I enjoyed the various bird exhibits the best. The flamingoes were beautiful and made alot of noise. Parrots by the entrance just lovely. The African cranes were very graceful. The toucan hopped around his enclosure. Also enjoyed the bison. Some excitement happened here. The bison got wild and two of them charged at each other. They made alot of noise.... more
I like to see animals in a large natural habitat setting instead of cages or small spaces. The building where the bats were kept stunk. We took the train ride, which cost extra, and would not do that again as there was nothing to see on the ride. There were six of us who went to the zoo ranging in... more
The Birmingham Zoo has much improved over the past several years. The new exhibit "Alabama Wild" is so much fun! Petting zoo, barn animals, animals native to Alabama- We also love the Lorakeet exhibit. You can feed the Lorakeets nectar... yes they land all over you! Definitely worth an afternoon while in the Magic City! more
