The Vulcan statue is located on Red Mtn. with a great view of Birmingham far below. The elevator ride to the top of the statue is spectacular, and walking on the floor made of metal grating is breathtaking as you can see down to the ground below. The adjoining museum is devoted to the history of the statue, and to... more

Went to Vulcan Park on my trip to Birmingham and it was well worth it. It is a very nice park with a gorgeous view of Birmingham. We stayed for about an hour to an hour and a half. Got some great pictures. We paid our $6 for a trip through the museum and to go to the top of... more

This was a fun and short stop. You can walk around the small museam, stop in the gift shop and go to the top of the tower (elevator or steps). Views were very nice. It was a small costs (less than $10 for the museam and top of the tower, but you can just walk around the park for free.... more

The statue itself is impressive, being the largest cast iron one around. For $6 you get access to the museum and the observation deck. There are nice views from the ground, so once you get up top it is really nice. The observation deck may be a littl scary for people afraid of hights because as another reviewer mentioned it... more

We took a ride up to Vulcan park after exploring Brimingham. The museum was very interesting. It was nice to see the steps that were taking to first build the sculture and the pain staking details on the restoration. We walked up the many stairs to the top ( If you are not up for the stair thing you can... more

We arrived at 10am on a Monday and neither the Museum or Observation deck were open. So, even though the website says the park is open, the museum and observation deck may not be. Also, we walked by some people that worked there and noone spoke to us as far as when the museum would open. Do not go on... more

The most recognizable icon of Birmingham, the statue of Vulcan, recently reopened after a five-year restoration. The statue and its pedestal have been returned to their original glory. Additionally, a new museum covers the general history of Birmingham and Vulcan. I visited Vulcan in late July 2008; adult admission costs $6, a reasonable fee. The walkway leading up to the... more

Vulcan, Roman god of forge, is the world's largest cast iron statue and a marvelous sight to see. As I rode the elevator to the top of the open-air observation deck, I looked out the side of the elevator with the glass to see the view of the park and parking lot. When I reached the top, I stepped off... more

You have to pay addmission for the elevator ride up to the observation deck. I suppose you could pay to walk up if you wanted to, my friend walked down. It was night time (deck closes at 10) and we could see lights for what looked like miles. I'd bet sunset views are magnificent. The observation deck is around the... more

We stopped by to see the statue on our way back from a trip to Atlanta. Like the previous reviewer we were pleasantly surprised by the very nice and well presented museum on the history of B'ham. The grounds of the statue/museum were very nice with plenty of parking and picnic tables. There is a small charge for the museum... more
