We travelled to Lijiang in August of 2006 and took a tour to Yulong. The mountain is spectacular. As a confirmed urbanite who enjoys the idea of adventure travel, being in close proximity to a glacier without having to do any treking was exciting. Wow, this was an experience of a lifetime! You take a gondola from the base station up to nearly 15,000 ft. elevation. It is safe as the facility, operation and management is first-class, just like a Western ski resort. If you fear hypoxia, you can rent an oxygen bottle at base station for RMB 30.
