Ohrid is a popular Macedonia destination that is surrounded by a 3 million year old lake (shared with Albania) with beautiful clean azure water. It has an ancient feel to it with the Old Town boasting cafes, shops, and lodging. Destination: Macedonia (former Yugoslav republic) In May of 2006, i spent 3 weeks in Skopje, Macedonia...Greece borders to the south and Bulgaria to the east. Such a culture shock, having arrived from the USA.. Upon departing the airport for downtown Skopje, i witnessed an elderly man herding his sheep along the roadside, something i don't see every day in Maine.... more

Ohrid is a nice place to spend a few days if traveling through the Balkans and Macedonia.
