The best time to take a walk there is the afternoon. When the sun goes down the light is perfect for taking pictures. The park on the hill is beautiful with many paths for lovers.

I've visited this fortress four or five times, basically every time I go there from Australia. The view from up here is terrific, you'll get the best photos of Ohrid from up here, hands down!
However, this place needs facilities, toilets, maybe a souvenir shop or little food outlet. It also needs friendlier staff. I fail to understand why the...

No facilities or anything, just a pretty fortress.
The place itself is very nice, but all you can see, are some empty walls. Otherwise good accesses to ther top. Should they organise it a bit inside, with some shops, restaurants etc, the place could be absolutely great.
Though there is not much to see inside, is nice to walk around here, the woods down the fortress are so nice!!! There are also the ruins of the University just down the fortress. You can go to the antique theatre and walk from there through the old city. Its a great place to walk and enjoy!!! Bring water if...

It`s located on the top of the hill...I recommend you to park the car or the bus on the second gate of Ohrid and from there you only need 10min by foot. We made that and it was perfect distance to walk for those people who don`t like climbing. How ever every streat crossed from the bottom to top has...

A very tough walk should you wish to take it on. Worth the effort once you get there. Some interesting History and my oh my what absolutely beautiful and breathtaking views.
Only a 10 minute walk from downtown Ohrid, the Samuel Fortress has one of the best views of Lake Ohrid. It is right at the top of the 'old town' of Ohrid, surrounded by tight cobblestone streets and small houses. It is right near the Plaoshnik monastery and archaeological site, the St. Jovan Kaneo Monastery, and the Roman Amphitheatre. Definitely...

The Fortress overlooks both the old town of Ohrid and modern Ohrid below. Fantastic view of the entire Lake and the mountain/national park Galichica to the East. Archaeological site inside also. Entrance fee is about $1.50 USD. Excellent spot for photos! Short walk from downtown Ohrid up the cobblestone streets past the Roman Amphitheatre. Highly recommended.
a lot of wind! the place not very interesting. but the outsides views are marvelous. donn't visit in october!!
