Is is a great trip. The boat takes you for a one hour each way trip for 130Rs round-trip to this island. The boat ride alone is great and nice cooling breeze in the heat of Mumbai. Elephanta caves are on the World Heritage list of monuments. After seeing it, I can only conclude that the the guys making the decisions couldn't let Mumbai/Bombay to be without a World Heritage site. If you have a free day, it is nice to visit the Elephanta Island and its caves. if it's your first time, the caves will astound you. The ferry trip is typical, you depart from the Gateway of India and can have a god experience, although a bit touristy.
