What i disliked was the crowd mismanagement, the unruly and abusive behaviour of our fellow army man. People are goging there from far away places just to see and cheer up for our country India, with huge respect for our security forces but was shocked to see my country man beaten up with boots and kicks and filthy language of army... It was a riot (not literally!!) seeing the pomp & circumstance of the border closing. We (group of 13 American travelers) got there at about 5:15 or so (45-60 minute drive from Amritsar) and had little trouble getting in the foreigner/VIP section--but do not bring anything but water, sunscreen/hat, and your passport. No bags are allowed at all! Be prepared... More

It was the worst experience ever on a holiday. Most disorganized and shameful. You are treated worse than animals. It is sooo crowded and without any management what so ever. Reached at 4.30 before the gates opened and the way people rush in and the few guards shove you around. The seating area was clearly overflowing but still people kept... More

Perhaps I went to visit Wagah Border just as many other tourist places I have visited...But with every step towards the ceremony gallery, I felt INDIAN. The ceremonial march, The patriotic songs and the 'citizen run' with the Indian flag were experiences engraved in my heart. The Pakistani crowd across the border cheered their ceremonial process while the Indian side... More

Went to this last night and it was one of my reasons for visiting Amritsar (aside from the Golden Temple). We got there just before 4pm and waited ages for our car to be allowed in, went through a few security checked before being shown our seats in the VIP section (this is next to the forgeiner section). Really enjoyed... More

Amritsar to Wagah border takes around one hour or so. The beating the retreat ceremony starts aat 5.pm. It takes place every evening and still we can see lots of people visiting the place. everything go on peacefully, inspite of thebig crowd. When we reached the place of actual performance I was impressed that they first beckoned the senior citizens,... More

The joint, and mockingly competing, march of the Indian and Pakistani army is very entertaining. The spirit of both the armies are very high and so are that of the spectators on both sides (Indians and Pakistanis).

As a "must see", we found this experince a little disappointing. The crowds are enormous ( don't even think about going there on Sundays) and it's nearly impossible to get a really good view. Crown control seems to consist of packing more and more people into the same space, so even if you get a great positin early by the... More

We were hoping that it being a Tuesday that we'd have a pleasant experience. We got there at 4:30 - the gates had already opened by then. Passing through the initial security check was pretty quick. But trying to find a decent spot to sit down at was impossible. The stand to the right (where its not segregated by gender... More
