Myanmar (Burma) is a unique nation that is just opening up to the world after years of being closed off - and it can be good to visit and learn from the people there. But, your one-day visit to Tachileik is not going to accomplish those goals. It's the epitomy of a dusty border town, and is not representative of... More

Most Thai border towns are like this, bustling with cheap goods being offered to tourists walking across the border to get their visas stamped. My advice is to eat nothing in this town. Bring your own food. This is a seriously unhealthy place. One curiosity is the long line of booths positioned along the highway entering and leaving Mae Sai... More

Mae sai itself is the northest town in Thai, 4hours 30 minits drive from Cheng Mai,and it is border city Between Thai-Burma. Burma side is Taichilik. Very crowded and noisy town on day time, full with hawker selling things and foods along the road, and most of product is from China. Stalls along the gate, selling Burma gems. Night time... More

If you are the kind who loves buying pirated CDs DVDs MP3, knockoff Guccis, Raybans, Oakleys etc. then you need go further. Most of the merchandize sold here come from Mainland China and most of these items breakdown in no time flat. There are shops where you can purchase preserved fruits but to the westerner - you would not know... More

We paid to cross the border as we had made the trip there as part of a tour. We didn't spend much time across in Burma, but Tachilek looked like a bustling town.

We had no idea it would cost 500 baht per person to cross into Burma . The lines were long to get out of Thailand and then long to get back on. The markets are only filled with cheap Chinese fake goods and a lot of beggars . Save your money and take the boat to Laos at the golden... More
