Some buildings have a special charm and produce a deep impression , it's the case of the Great Mosque of kairouan . This is a huuuuge Mosque, with long history and great importance as religious site for Muslims. In some countries you can visit mosques' interiors even if you are not muslim,, but not in Tunisia. On the '70 some eejit tourists entered a mosque wearing their shoes, sat down and opened a bottle of wine, so after that entrance is prohibited... more

The mosque itself is absolutely huge.. has an amazing history and is the third most sacred place to muslims. You are expected to cover up arms and legs in respect.. long trousers (which u can fold up later) and a shawl should suffice.. For those that dont, you will be asked to wear one of the kaftans there.. just depends... more
