I knew how important Kairouan and its mosque are, so I wanted to visit it. Maybe I was unlucky, trying to find my way by car (I suppose it could be different with a travel agency). Kairoun is a a big city, crowded, with narrow streets and a terrible traffic. I found a local guide who offered to show me... More

I was very excited about visiting here, the fourth most holy site in Islam! However, I was somewhat disappointed by it's lack of tourism (I hate to say it like that) you basically walk in and listen to your tour guide rattle on about the history and that is it! I feel that so much more could have been made... More

The holy city of Kairouan’s best UNESCO World Heritage Site treasure is well worth a visit. Tourists, no matter what faith, are welcome, if a little respect is shown - that’s no more than not disturbing those at prayer and ladies covering their head, as might be expected in most active places of worship. Visits can be made at most... More

Some buildings have a special charm and produce a deep impression , it's the case of the Great Mosque of kairouan . The mosque is certainly the most prestigious sanctuary of all the Maghreb. it's also one of the most ancient monuments of islamic civilization . When we arrive at Kairouan , we see by far the strong and powerful... More

This is a huuuuge Mosque, with long history and great importance as religious site for Muslims. In some countries you can visit mosques' interiors even if you are not muslim,, but not in Tunisia. On the '70 some eejit tourists entered a mosque wearing their shoes, sat down and opened a bottle of wine, so after that entrance is prohibited... More

Kairouan is regarded as a very holy city by Muslims and the Sidi Oqba Mosque is the first mosque built in Africa and is regarded as being the fourth most important mosque in Islam after the great mosques in Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. Kairouan is about 160 kilometres south of Tunis and was founded by the Arabs in around 670... More

The mosque itself is absolutely huge.. has an amazing history and is the third most sacred place to muslims. You are expected to cover up arms and legs in respect.. long trousers (which u can fold up later) and a shawl should suffice.. For those that dont, you will be asked to wear one of the kaftans there.. just depends... More
