Quite a far distance away fron Ninh Binh, but great once you're there. Reasonable price, nice guides and some excellent photo opportunities

Did the boat trip at Van Long. We tried for Trang An but they only do trips of 4 people or more and there was no-one else there so we left after waiting about 15 minutes. Trang An looked super touristy and was staffed by really rude people so we were happy to move on. Van Long was the complete... More

This is the place for a quiet boat ride with endangered langurs hooting, a lovely grotto to go through, and nobody else around.

This peaceful, stunning scenery afforded a more enjoyable experience that our trip to Trang An. There were so few tourist traveling on the boats, it was quiet & we could appreciate the natural beauty of the area.

Amazingly having seen no tourists all day we came across another couple taking a a ride on a local boat late in the afternoon. Because of the weather the light was not good but we had an enjoyable time. We saw several kingfishers and other birds.

We stayed 5 nights in the nearby Emeralda Resort (I rated it "Excellent") because we wanted see the Halong Bay on land ,to avoid the crowds of Tam Coc ( described by Lonely Planet as "Surviving the Tam Coc Tango) , and to walk around to get a glimpse of Vietnam rural life. We did the boat ride three times... More
