I went in January 2012 with a friend who's been to the top many times, the view of Machu Picchu is supposedly spectacular.
About 10 minutes after leaving the railway lines and climbing inca steps you reach an approx 100foot near vertical section of rock. This was previously climbed using a steel cable anchored to the rock and wooden ladders....
