Beautiful place but too commercialised. Very crowded with tourists even during off peak season. There's an aborginal cultural village/theme park which is worth visiting, but otherwise nothing much to do in the area. The drive up can be quite nauseating due to the many twists and turns. Best to stay for 1 day, at most 2 days.

Sun Moon Lake definitely lives up the name of one of the most scenic spots of Taiwan but that's about it. Nevertheless, it may be ideal for photography sessions. If time permits then you may pay this place a visit, otherwise it's skipable if you don't have much time allowance. Very touristy, and it looks like just another lake you... More

This is a destination that couples and children would like. Sun Moon Lake is a reasonable romantic place for couples to go to relax for a couple of days. Children would also enjoy the outdoors and amusement park (see below). There's enough to do for a day and then you can relax for a day. My fiancé and I cycled... More

In the early hours of the morning, while mist still settles on the lake, it is great for a bike ride, a walk or just sipping a hot cup of coffee while watching the lake.

I'm sure it's beautiful when the skies are clear, the problem is timing your visit for that day. We visited when it was foggy and couldn't see a thing. Many other family and friends who visited at other times also said the same thing to us - which leads me to conclude (unscientifically) that the place is foggy by default.... More

We've seen many beautiful SML photos before the trip, but was advised by friends not to set our expectations too high. Several of them said it is " just a lake, nothing else", so we were pleasantly surprised to find the lake beautifully blue. Very pretty! During the cruise however, the sky became overcast and the lake lost its magic.... More

A trip of two days near the lake. Different ways to see the beauty of the lake such as by boat, by bus, by bike, on foot or even taking the cable car. We had a nice view from above by the cable car besides the boat and bus. On the weekend, it can be hard to move around as... More
