We stopped by at the recommendation of a tour guide for purchasing spices on our return trip to the US. The shop owner was very knowledgeable and helpful, well-educated, and easy to understand for me as an American. The prices were very reasonable, and they had many options to choose from.

This is a great shop in the spice market area of Delhi and a nice escape from the noise and bustle of the markets. They offer very good service and a great range of spices, nuts and teas. Advice is freely offered to help with your decision making and prices very good. I bought a selection of wonderful teas and beautiful fresh salted cashew nuts – they were superb, far better than the nuts we at home. Well worth a visit in Delhi.

If your tour guide brings you here do your self a favor and browse don't buy. Salespeople are very proficient in English and helpful then it is time to check out and someone who either doesn't know English or shrugs his shoulders any time he is asked a question totals the sales with pan and paper. Ultrimately we have no one to blame but ourselves but we were the pround owners of almost $300- of spices etc after the experience some wtih value such as the saffron but others such as a $150- bag of tea that allegedly is rare and premium but barely colored the water it was boiled in and resulted in the distinct taste of boiled water after the steeping.

We were brought here by our guide during a tour of Old Delhi. The staff spoke English, the place was clean, the packages were nicely presented. We brought back several packages of tea , some for gifts, some for us, but only recently tried them. The one I opened (masala chai) was really not very good. The tea is granular with some seasoning/ spices but I don’t see any actual tea leaves...completely processed and the flavour to match. I would not recommend the tea from this store.

Stopped here on my trip to India in February and really love the place, staff speak English really well which is really useful for what you are there for, whether you want to buy the spices for someone else or for something to cook on your own. Great selection of teas as well as mentioned in other reviews. I wish I had more room in my bag to take more home! The place has been in business for over 100 years, be sure to stop by!

We were brought there by our tour guide to the oldest spice shop in New Delhi (where he also received a commission). They are very nice and friendly. Once it was clear that we were willing to spend money, salespeople with even better English helped us. The first part of the issue is our mistake for not communicating with each other and verifying the prices. When it came to check out our bill was $300 and my husband said that can't be right. It is our fault that we did not go through the items and verify as we did not shop together and know what each other was buying. The checkout was done on a scratch pad as the computer was down. We had been told about the very special tea and there were two versions and I had looked at one that was $50. It turned out that I was sold one for $150. Again, this is our error as customers to not verify prices and do the correct conversion. They were clever businessmen who made a good sale to dumb tourists. However,I am upset about the lack of quality of the tea. We made a joke about how much we paid for this "special and rare" tea and how amazing it was going to be. However, we brewed according to directions and it had no flavor at all. It is lightly colored water and we felt further ripped off. We also purchased other spices which are fine but nothing special and much more expensive than other shops we visited. We contacted the store with our tea experience and they informed us that the issue was our palate and not their product. There are other shops that provide a more authentic experience at a fraction of the price.

We let them guide us, mistake. Best selection, fun to tour the spices with the shop man. But we let them sell us US$150 emperors tea, which is watery, nothing special to drink. Other teas were nothing special. And cinnamon etc... totaling USA$250. I could have bought it all at home for $10.

As per other reviewers. We were taken to this shop by our tour guide. No doubt pricey by Indian standards however, the shop is well presented, clean and they are not too pushy. However, as per other comments, they don't have recipes on how to use the spice. They give you very quick instructions but clearly their aim is to sell which is probably not to be unexpected...it's not a cooking class! However, we were in Delhi for one day so we didn't have a lot of time and it was part of the market tour so overall happy with the experience. Tip to the shop owners/sellers, get a website and add some instructions & recipes... that would be so helpful to your customers and also very good for your business.

I purchased chicken tikka masala, tandoori masala and butter chicken masala and was told the recipes were online. I can't find online recipes and need to know how much product to mix with yogurt or how to use these items for cooking

I've also tried to find recipes for the spices but asking an Australian to find A Kumar on Facebook is like asking an Indian to find J Smith on Facebook! There's millions of them.

When there, they said to go online to find the recipes to make their Tikka and Butter Masalas. Does anyone know where to go for these??
