After the bustle of the city a morning spent in peaceful surroundings was heaven. The animals are well cared for (in contrast to some of the poor beasts at the Amber fort) and you have a relaxing ride through the surrounding counryside with a stop for a cold drink or beer half way round. I went on a 1 hour elephant safari with a friend in the wilderness around the Dera Amer camp. The scenery was beautiful and it really was quite special to be away from all the crowds of people one encounters everywhere in India. We went before sun set and the ride took us though woods in the hilly region around... more
