What a fun and inspiring place to visit! loved it!
Still a good mix of established and up and coming artists but unlike at my last visit in 2006 commercial galleries now seem to dominate. The place is best reached by cab.
If you love art and want to see modern Chinese artists and their work, this is the place. Lots of little galleries. Personally i don't think the variety is that great. I like a couple of the ceramic arts studios, but not so much paintings. There is no kitschy tourists shops, a definite plus. Aside from a tea house and...

great to spend a Saturday morning wondering around art galleries.
Perhaps not as big and developed as the 798 art district in Beijing but nonetheless a very cool collection of different art galleries and coffeeshops. Great place to relax and browse art for a couple of hourse (like a free museum, no obligation to buy anything)

I have never been anywhere in the world that offered such an awesome living art experience with huge diversity. There are amazing wold art museums like the louvre the Tate and the NYC MOMA but this to me tops all of ther as its alive - this is real artists selling their wares and it's the best art creativity from...

M50 is basically a factory complex retrofitted with small individual art studios. The art in each one is different and of course quality and subjects vary. Most studios have painting and/or sculpture, but a couple of places showed photography and we found one studio with pottery. If you want to find out what young Shanghai artists are doing and thinking,...

There are 21 buildings housing galleries, studios and cafes and the art work is superb. Established artists are next to emerging artists and there are creators from Europe, Asia and North America.
We went twice and saw only about half the complex. It...
