We were a bit surprised at how nice the collection was and were very happy that we took the time to go see it. Once you find the apartment complex ask the guards at the gate about the museum and they will give you a little card showing you how to find it. It's pretty easy once your pointed in... More

Totally worth the adventure finding this place. A great collection of posters covering about 50 years of Chinese history. Amazing gift shop where you can buy quality reprints if most of the exhibition. One of my favorite, if not my favorite exhibition. Thoroughly interesting.

Very interesting and enjoyable museum. Good overview of each period of history in English (and French) and labels translating the message in about 95% of the posters on the display. The collection was larger than I had expected. Interesting gift shop as well. Worth the cab ride and the experience of “finding” the right building with the little direction card... More

Finding this museum is an adventure in itself. The most important thing to know is that it is in the basement of an apartment building and is not marked. No point looking for plaques or signs. Once you get there, though, the museum provides a good half hour of browsing, at least. (It's tiny.) The posters are hilarious and fascinating... More

Our cabbie was a little confused, but the security guard set him straight: yes, this apartment building really is the home of a museum. I don't want to over-hype this place, because it is not really a museum and not really an art gallery. It is worth a visit, however, if you are planning a visit to the French Concession,... More

We absolutely loved the Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Center. It is not easy to find (go to 868 Huashan Road and approach the staff in the security office at the gate; they will know what you are looking for and will hand you a little card with a map on it). But it's very well worth the trouble. The propaganda... More

First a few tips: The Chinese address (which will be useful to bring if you take a taxi) is: Chinese Address 上海宣传画艺术中心 中国 上海 华山路868号B幢 B层 The opening hours are from 10am to 5pm everyday of the week, and if you show up at the address, then the watchman there will give you a little business card with a specise... The place itself is a little bit tricky to find, because it is in a seemingly residential complex. Although the posters are interesting, the exhibition relatively small and not so well-kept. For the ones who are interested, the gift shop has great exclusive reproductions of the posters.

I felt old visiting China for the first time as I was around watching the tely during the scary days of the Cultural Revolution. For the present-day Chinese, the days of Mao and the Gang of Four are ancient history. However I was given a tip regarding this diamond-in-the-rough museum and heartily recommened it to anyone with a mild interest... More

If you know enough history and politics to understand what you're seeing, this is very much worth a visit. They also sell reproduction and original posters.
