My family & I stayed in the Arenal area from October 245h - October 27th. We stayed at Arenal Paraiso which had a great view for the price. Don't leave the area without visiting the Arenal Waterfall. PLEASE NOTE: you must be in excellent physical shape to comfortably descend the path to the waterfall & especially climb back up. Do... more

La Fortuna waterfall is gorgeous. I would recommend bringing your bathing suit to take a dip in the water. Even if it's cold and rainy bring one because the hike down and up the mountain is VERY steep and you'll be hot and sweaty. Entrance to the park to see the waterfall is $9US p/p but if you drive yourself,... more

This was one of many attractions in the La Fortuna area that Leo Rodriguez [--] brought us to. Leo made our stay in Costa Rica extremely efficient and very relaxing. Without his expert advise it would have been a real crapshoot; instead he steered us to excellent restaurants and the best attractions (like this waterfall - dont miss it), all... more

We went early in the day and it was not crowded. I wasn't really even sure what to expect. You climb down a long, but well-crafted stairway and then you see the falls. The water is really cold but you can swim around the falls. The current is way stronger than you'd imagine. But the really neat part is walking... more

We traveled with a 5yr old and an 18mo old (wish we took the baby carrier from home!!). The trek is not for the weak at heart. I would rate the difficulty level at 7/10 (especially walking back up). But definitely worth it. The falls itself is one of the best I've seen (Akaka falls in the Big Island was... more

My girlfriend and I decided to get to the La Fortuna waterfall by horseback. I am a novice rider and it was very hot. The horses were in good shape and very well behaved, but if you want to go this route, make sure you are comfortable with steep climbs, crossing streams and riding in rough terrain. The waterfall is... more

A must-see if your in the area. Bring your swimsuit, but be warned, the water is chilly! Bring your camera too!!! Its a steep climb to the falls, so you must be in decent physical health. Also, ask the locals for other local swimming spots further down the river, we found one near a bridge where there was a tarzan... more

There are a number of tours who will take you to the waterfall, but my wife and I decided to take a cab to the trailhead. The entrance fee was about $9 each. The hike to the bottom of the waterfall is down a well maintained trail with a lot of steps. The hike takes about 15-20 minutes. Below there... more
