Hike was shorter than expected, but easy to walk until you get to the lava flows, then you need to use a little creativity when making your way up, but there are arrows painted. From the top you definitely have a closer view to the volcano and can hear the rumbles. We did not get to see any lava flows,... more

We used Aventuras Arenal (or Arenal Adventures in english) for three tours: Arenal Volcano hike, Cano Negro Tour, and horseback to La Fortuna. I'll review each separately: The Volcano hike was very "meh". The guide was reading a volcano information book that we picked up from the hotsprings for a few dollars. A good tour, with arenal adventuras, $40 pp, ~2hours(each way) in bus and 2hours on boat wildlife spotting and lunch and soft drinks. Excellent tour guides, stopping en route to spot wildlife and explain about agriculture and costa rica. more
