This trip was one of the highlights of our vacation. I had heard of this tour from tripadvisor and so was interested. My wife was unsure as she was skeptical about crawling around & getting dirty. However, our 2 teens prevailed. We went with a guide, Felix, from Desafio. He was very warm, personable, and knowledgeable. The cave was about an... more

After reading previous reviews on the cave I knew I had to go. There were three adults and my 6 year old daughter. The hotel was trying to charfge us $60 each for the tour. We just got into our rental and drove there and paid $15 for adults and $10 for my daughter. We got there 1st thing in... more

I terribly arachniphobic, so when I was told that there would be plenty of spiders, I almost backed out. But Im so glad I didnt! It was a wonderful experience, and has so much fun! I even held a spider (see photos!). Definetely would reccommend to all and I would do again! more

Well, not entirely, you still need to hire a guide at the entrance. But, if you have a car, it's easy to drive the hour or so out to the cave. The road is paved till the last mile or so, which is rocky and steep. We arrived and joined up with a group of 3 who had been transported... more

This was a tour I almost didn't book, but I'm glad I did. I went to Costa Rica for the adventure and thought the caves would be boring. It was definetely the adventure we were looking for. Upon arriving, the guide asked us if we were up for anything and we told him we were. If you choose to go... more

This was a much more extreme experience than the commercial caves in the US, where you just walk through a well-lit cave. You'll end up soaking wet and very muddy, but it's a blast. They drive you from downtown Arenal to and from the town of Venado (about 45 minutes), where the cave is located on private property. Bring a... more

I booked this tour through www.arenal.net and went on this activity with my girlfriend. We were picked up in a van at our hotel. The drive to the caves is about an hour each way. Our guide only spoke a little english, so he put on a DVD with pictures of the caves to keep us occupied. We were the... more

This cave was a wet cave. It was a really neat experience to see the blind crickets and the bats. We climbed thru tiny spaces, walked thru a waterfall and crawled thru tunnels with rivers. It wasreally neat. The historic coral formation was massive and very impressive. The foramation on the walls and ceiling were fantastic. This was a very... more

Venado spelunking was the best part of our trip! If you're in for an adventure - but you're NOT claustraphobic, you have to try it out! We went when the water levels were high, so a warning that there is a strong current at parts, and we actually had to lay down on our stomach and crawl on our forearms... more
