We spent about 3 hours walking the looped hanging bridges trail and had a nice morning. We arrived early hoping to beat crowds and see more animals. It wasn't too crowded - we definitely saw people but didn't feel packed in or anything. We did not hire a guide but as we walked, we did see some animals that guides... more
We tried to take a guided trip here. We arrived around 15 minutes early and were told that the guided tour was full. I would like to suggest that the management consider having an extra guide to pick up the people like us who would have happily paid for a guided tour. We went through the park, but missed a... more
We went to the hanging bridges in the morning mid April and had a nice 2-hour self-guided walk. It isn't very steep or tiring so you can easily combine it with other activities. The drive to the handing bridges provides nice view of the lake and the volcano. We didn’t get a guide but I’m sure you see more things... more
Spent afternoon at park. Plan for rain even in the "dry season." We were there 3/09 and it rained on and off. Bridges were very nice and concrete inserts were embedded in trail making it easy to maneuver. Saw one howler monkey in tree. Pretty waterfalls. Thought $22pp entry fee was a bit pricey. more
This was one of the highlights of our trip to the Arenal Volcano area. The trails were very well maintained and we got to experience the jungle without having to do too strenuous of hiking. The views were amazing (even though we wish it had been less overcast). We just did a self-guided tour and it took us about an... more
The cost is $22 for a unguided tour, however we booked a tour with a guide. We got a guided tour of the 2 mile hike for $50 per person. A little steep, however we did learn a lot and our guide was very knowledgeable. You would definitely lose out by not having a guide. No matter what the scenery... more
This was a nice little walk, all of the pathways are paved and there are six hanging bridges, nine stable bridges. The walk itself is about 3 km long and it's a very easy walk, so don't expect a big hike! The views were beautiful but the walk was a little slow because there was a LOT of foot traffic,... more
We liked seeing all the animals and plants, however, there were parts that were very steep and slippery. If you have any knee, ankle, or hip problems, I would suggest staying home. The hanging bridges are amazing, but the trails to get to them are very difficult. more
This was one of our highlights in Arenal, and I would highly recommend it to anyone. It is a hike through the jungle with 14 bridges (9 are hanging suspension bridges I think and the rest are regular). There were not many other people and it gave us some of the best views!! Walk slowly and see what you can... more
