We visited the sloth sanctuary a couple of weeks back. We started out with a canoe trip around the area, and that was great. We saw a couple of wild sloths, howler monkeys and some great birds. Our guide spoke little English but was friendly and good at spotting. The animal encounters themselves were a little disappointing in that we... More

The sloth sanctuary was one of the main reasons we chose to go to Costa Rica for vacation, and the only reason we went to the Caribbean coast. I've wanted to go for years and the time was finally right. The sloth nursery was my favorite. I could have done without the boat ride, but it was fine. I wish... More

The idea of the whole place is a good one and i think they really help the sloth and they help us, to understand them better - or at least they try. But, the whole tour place is a big touristy thingy. You are put on a boat for a little ride on the "river" where you will see some... More

I'm a biology professor from Canada. Four of us visited the sanctuary. We saw both Costa Rican sloth species, babies and adults -- perhaps 20 sloths in total. We were given a small, personalized tour -- it was excellent, and based on good science and compassion. It was wonderful for all ages, and I highly recommend it. It cost $18... More

Sanctuary is nice and well thought out. It's a little sad to see the sloths in cages or zoo-like displays but they are sloths and aren't hampered by this like other animals would. River tour outside is by far the best part. We saw a howler monkey couple toting their baby through the trees and a released sloth that was... More

We've brought injured sloths to them, and they've done wonders. One was so badly injured, he couldn't be released. He's their mascot - Toyota is his name, since he's so tough!

This place is really interesting and helps understand a lot about these animals, and all the various types there are! Several people speak (only) English, they are very nice and helpful. Tips: this place is extremely full of mosquitoes (what is not in Costa Rica), so please remember your repellent. It also comprises a boat ride and if you get... More

DId a private excursion to the Sloth Sanctuary and it was such a wonderful experience. These animals are totally adorable! The tour was very informative and the sanctuary has a nice gift shop and area for a light lunch. If you are an animal lover don't miss this opportunity to see and learn more about sloths!

We had planned to go snorkeling, but water was too cloudy due to recent storms, so we decided to take the bus from Cahuita /Limon and get off at the Sloth Sanctuary. We had a small group of us at the sancuary. After watching a short film, the guide (who was the grandson of the founder) took us to visit... More
