Sabine's operation has the most well cared for horses I've ever seen, much less ridden, in a trail riding operation. Sabine's horseback riding was absolutely fantastic! The horses were very well trained, we had a great guide, and we saw stunning views that you simply can't see just by walking around. It was around 3 hours in the afternoon, 2 hours or so on the horses and another hour hiking down to a gorgeous secluded waterfall and back up again.... more

There are many horse outfitters in Monteverde. I chose Sabine b/c of the positive reviews about her in Lonely Planet. I believe I made the right choice. I took my daughter (13 at the time) to Costa Rica, primarily to ride at Sabine's ranch. It was by far the best riding experience I have ever had. Sabine and her guides will keep you safe, but of course you must always ride at your level -- some of her horses are more than willing to really kick it... more
