Highly recommend the Biological Reserve, a unique, entertaining natural attraction. I went on early morning tour with teenage son excellent. It was cloudy which hampered visiblity. Arrived at 7:30 AM without reservation and was placed in guided tour with another family. We had a great tour guide, Eduardo Neil, who was very knowledgeable about everything in the cloud forest. Located many things we would not have noticed including many monkeys in the trees, throwing branches and other things down! Definitely do not miss the sandwiches at the deli by the hummingbird area! more

We went to the cloud forest reserve and even stayed in their dorm-style accommodation. The first night, we took the guided night hike, but saw very little at all. We went early and had a guide (highly recommended). You can take pictures with a digital camera through your guide's scope. Take a rain jacket and wear boots, it is very wet even in the dry season. Go to the Hummingbird Gallery afterward to watch all the hummingbirds at the feeder. We saw 7 species and an "olingo". more

This is one of the major reasons' I came, and stayed in the MonteVerde area. The reserve, even though it is large, only allows people to see a small park of the reserve. That's okay, it is why so many people study there. We did two of the loops, one was a shorter loop, and the other three were closed.... more

As of March 2008 the Reserve is not permitting flash photography. This includes the parking areas and macro photography!!!! It was not in their published, written or signposted rules but was being enforced, predominantly discriminatorily against pro-level photographers with shoe and/or handle mount flash units.
