We have approximately 65 bats of 8 species, all tropical fruit-eating and nectar-feeding ("hummingbats") species. Visitors are taken on a guided tour where they not only see, but hear the echolocation calls of flying bats. They also enjoy amazing stationary and interactive professionally designed exhibits. « less

I visited the Bat Jungle during August of 2009. The experience was absolutely wonderful. The price is worth the high quality of the exhibit. It starts with a guided tour of the museum and Richard Laval (the owner) gives a lot of very interesting information. I learned a lot about bat conservation that I didn't know. Bats are so important... more

We visited the Bat Jungle last month (August 2009) with our two teenage kids, and it was one of the highlights of our time in Monteverde. Keep in mind, however, that this is not so much a tourist attraction, as a serious educational/research facility, run by renowned bat scientist Dr. Richard Laval and his daughter. When we arrived, a tour... more

My family and I thouroughly enjoyed the bat jungle. The guide was extremely knowledgable and we all learned a tremendous amount. We went for my son, 8, but the entire family had a blast. The exibihits and information outside the actual bat enclosure and very family friendly and educational. The viewing of the bats themselves was thrilling and very interesting.... more

The Bat Jungle is not a major attraction - If one views it that way, one would be disappointed. BUT .... It is delightful and informative. One leaves the place wanting to save the world for the bats! We arrived about an hour before closing - which was an hour and a half before sunset. The four of us were... more

I do not love bats. Like so many, I've read and believed their bad press, until, that is, I visited the Bat Jungle in Monteverde, Costa Rica. I'm a grandmother and toured the Jungle with a family who had young children. They were rapt in attention. I was FASCINATED! I could listen to the bats' echo-location sounds, see and feel... more

While in Monteverde, I went on TA to get an idea for what to do with my free afternoon and saw that The Bat Jungle was #1, so of course I had to check it out for myself. I arrived at the building by taxi (not really close enough to walk from any hotels), and followed the sign that said... more

We are sorry sammyt27 was not entirely happy with his experience at the Bat Jungle. He especially mentioned that we needed new signs so a visitor arriving while tours were already in progress would know his options, including waiting time. We now have signs addressing these questions. Normally this is not a problem, but, as in any tourist business, sometimes...

Recently opened and still expanding, The Bat Jungle is a wonderful way to learn about bats and see them in a great viewing venue. Our one hour tour was very educational and fun. I would recommend this to all age groups! more

The Bat Jungle is a wonderful way to spend an hour on a rainy afternoon in Monteverde! We happen to think bats are cool but even if you don't it is a truly fascinating tour and you will learn a lot and enjoy yourself. Our tour guide, Vino, a Belgian Biologist , led us through the informative part of the... more
