We've been coming to CR for years, had heard about the Biesanz family, Barry's wood shop, and had even read his Mother's book "The Ticos", but had never visited his business. WOW! What took us so long? Why hadn't we been before now? My advice---DO NOT MISS GOING HERE! These folks are some of the most charming and knowledgeable people... More

I defy anyone to find a place with more charm and artistic talent as this. Barry is a genius and a fount of information about his craft and Costa Rica in general. Do not miss this!

This is a fantastic place to visit to see artisan woodworks. It is the nicest place in Costa Rica to see handmade wooden boxes and works of art. The actual area where the store and workshop is located is also just gorgeous. I HIGHLY recommend going to the place.

This trip to Biesanz's workshop was our 5th (at least). We visit everytime we are in Costa Rica (live in U.S.). Barry, his wife and staff are all very friendly and happy to show their private gardens behind the store and the workshop where all the wooden treasures are produced. Well worth the trip!!

This was a great find! One of the employees drove to our hotel to lead us to the shop. He gave us a great tour - thanks Minor! Then we met the artist himself - a delightful 2 hours. So worth a visit.

If you like woodworking and wood products - nice place to visit. Interesting ways to dry tropical hardwoods - apparently up to 14 yr, depending on final use. Venu quite lovely, along with display room of products, many mass-produced, but many one-of-a-kind art. We did this visit while recuperating from arrival near midnight the evening before. It was a short... More

We met the artist, toured the grounds, and took home what will become a family heirloom.

A visit to Biesanz Woodworks is like a visit to a fine winery. You experience not only the finished product, but the craftsmanship behind its creation. The artist, Barry Biesanz, is an American expat whose anthropologist parents are considered among the foremost experts on Tico culture and history. In 1971, with no previous artistic training, Barry began crafting fine art... More

After years of wanting to visit Biesanz Woodworks, I finally made it up last weekend. I have to say it was well worth my time. The wood items for sale are absolutely perfect and I found several beautiful and useful items to take home. The walk out back through the gardens and around the pond was a little slice of... More
