Located in one of the biggest parks of San Jose, Costa Rica, this small museum of Costa Rican art doubles down as a historic site (it used to be the international airport until it got moved to the current location outside of town). It's free for anyone who wants to walk in and is conveniently close to the national stadium...

This is an excellent museum in the old San Jose airport terminal building at La Sabana Park, which used to be San Jose's in-town airport. The building itself an interesting example of Spanish architecture. Particularly interesting is the sculpture garden, featuring the works of some of Costa Rica's most renowned artists. Don't miss the mural room upstairs (on the right...

this is a must do visit. I was so surprised by the place and delighted to see beautiful Costa Rican art. I love taking people here just to see the wooden inland walls upstairs ... this is what Costa Rica should do more of! renovate the true beauty of Costa Rica!
Its location is nice (by the Sabana park) and the room with Costa Rica (and Central America's) history is incredible, but the rest of the art is pretty much one artist, and it was pretty average. Though, as it's free, I guess there really shouldn't be any complaints here. If you have nothing to do some day, go walk around...

Small museum (4-5 main rooms) showcasing Costa Rican Art. This museum used to be part of the city airport and you can find pieces reminding of the history of this building on the premises. There are nice skulptures in the back yard. And one of the upstairs rooms has an amazing metal "wallpaper" with motives from Costa Rica's history.
The Museo de Arte costaricense is located in La Sabana park....a couple of kilometers west of downtown San José, at the end of Avenida Central - which makes for quite a walk! While the building itself is interesting (it's actually the old downtown airport), there isn't really much to see, except for an exceptionally beautiful hand carved room on the...

Just had a chance to visit my last time in San Jose. The architecture of the building is wonderful. The artist on display was very good and the grounds behind are nice.
I try to go here every time I come to Costa Rica, and to get inspired. Exhibits are extraordinary! Check out the bar relief room upstairs, amazing!
The building was beautiful, but I found the art a little one dimensional. They were full of the works of a chap called Otto Muy, and I would say I'm not a fan after seeing so many of his works here. I must admit I was hoping for a celebration of many different artists, to see all the styles and...
