One of the best things we ever did was to take a helicoper ride to the top of Mendelhall. My wife is scared to fly and afraid of heights. But she agree to do this for me. Thank you my dear. And boy did she have a good time. The ride was smooth, the pilot professional will tons of experience... more

If this is the only glacier you're going to see in Alaska, it is a good one. The visitor's center is set up very well, with lots of information, and there's a few choices for hikes in the area. But if you've got a chance to see a more active glacier from a boat, I suggest that. This one does... more

Before it's gone (melts!?), this is definitely something you'll want to see in your lifetime.Very easy to get to on the MGT, at $7 per person each way from the cruise ship dock area. Took the $1.50 per person each way city bus from the Breakwater Inn to get to the cruise ship dock area. (Yes, we managed to get... more

This was one of the best part of Juneau. Make the most of your time if you are an outdoorsy type. Skip the indoor part and hike along the water...there's a rough trail that goes up to the glacier, but if you don't have much time, hike quickly...there's a waterfall that's amazing. more

Don't waste your time on a tour or flying over it, get yourself in a cab or on the bus and get there. What a beautiful sight, and pray for clouds....it is actually more spectacular with clouds than sunshine. Lots of trails, easy, easy hikes to see waterfalls and a lot of nature. If you only see one things outside... more

I hear it is shrinking .... reason enough to see it ASAP. There is a nice hiking trail that you can take to get to the glacier, or if you don't want to walk, you can observe it from a far. If you are taking a cruiseship, DON"T pay 50 dollars for the tour! Take the bus for a couple... more

When we got off the bus we had about 90 minutes to view the glacier and to visit the visitor’s center. Surprisingly this was enough time to do both. Several trails to walk on. One leads you around the lake to the base of a waterfall which was quite near the base of the glacier. We were told to do... more

Beautiful views of the glacier & falls from the visitor center area. Very informative park guides, well located and staffed visitor center easily accessible by walking up or by elevator. In mid July the profusion of flowers on the short trails leading away from the visitor center area was super. There were a few salmon, but we were told the... more

We didn't go to the visitors center - we were too busy taking in the sites. It is something not to be missed. Be sure to get your picture taken at the overlook with the glacier and waterfall as we did. more

A must see in Juneau. $12 return on a shuttle bus that leaves every 30 minutes from the cruise ship terminal will take you on a scenic 15 minute drive to the entry point to Mendenhall Glacier. It was great, very picturesque and a variety of trails to walk on. One lead you around the lake to the base of... more
