We visited the sanctuary in July 2009 and found the experience to be well worth our time and money. Our guide, Sam, was very knowledgeable of the trees, plants, and wildlife. We saw numerous eagles and a bear in the stream. He was engaging and made the hike fun and interesting for both adults and children. Afterwards we went through... more

This being my second time to cruise Alaska I decided thaat my daughter & I would get in a little nature hike----it was May 19 and the weather was very chilly and misty. Our guide told us some interesting facts--but for wildlife--it was only the captured eagle and the domestic reindeer. We saywNO eagles and I noticed that the most... more

The Wildlife Sancutary was a total rip off. It was the worst $172 my wife and I have ever spent. Please, whatever you do, avoid it. It's the biggest tourist trap imaginable. Their write up in the cruise ship directory makes it sound really appealing, but believe me it SUCKED. They basically took you through a half mile hike in... more

We did a shore excursion from Iland Princess that was billed as a Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary hike. We were to seen the rainforest, wildlife, a Salmon hatchery, and totem poles. The mile hike took place below the zipline excursion that was going on above. They were having a great time, but there is no way wildlife would be in this... more

I did not do that -- but rather meandered slowly with a native guide and a small group of fellow tourists through the magnificent sodden rain forest itself. If you love old-growth forests, ferns, moss, strange berries, sometimes even bears, or suddenly seeing silent... more

The sole purpose of our trip to Alaska was to do the zipline tour in Ketchikan after reading about it on CNN.com. The Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary zipline caters to the cruise ships and is actually owned by one of the cruise lines, so if you are not on a cruise and want to do this, call a few days ahead... more

My wife and I took a one-week cruise to Alaska onboard the Dawn Princess. One of our ports of call was Ketchikan. Unfortunately we only had about 4-hours in this port which was just enough time to do one excursion (barely enough time). The excursion we chose was the "Canopy and Zipline Adventure" which took place in the Rainforest Sanctuary.... more
