Visiting the wall of Avila is like stepping back in time. The walls are one of the best examples in Europe of medieval fortifications. You can buy tickets to go up the walls at the "Casa de la Carnicería" (used to be the meat market), located at the gate right near the cathedral. If you know enough castellano, it is... more

It was a surprise to NOT find these on the listings, given these walls are a world treasure of another time. Completely surrounding the city of Avila--these medieval walls can be traversed high above the city. There is also a booklet given on the walls, their history and more. more
