Do make this a stop on your travels. Even in mid-september there were still bears around pinching the salmon. Be carfeful but enjoy!
After being told that the hatchery was a good place to possibly see bears as the salmon were running we took a drive out there one evening. I have never seen so many salmon. It was low tide when we drove out and there must have been 15 eagles sitting in the mudflats. I had never been to a hatchery...

Go at high tide. There are thousands of salmon right off the shore and right close to your feet. A few yards out, sea lions and sea otters are catcing and eating them. Just an incredible sight. If you have a car, ask the locals for directions - it is on Dayville road - and go see it. The locals...
