My husband & I booked Rovos Rail from Pretoria to Cape Town, then he was unwell & had to cancel. I bravely decided to go it alone. Very worried about the obvious " couple " thing so I was delighted to find all went beautifully. I had a double cabin to myself which would have been very tight with another... More

We had a beautiful 'room' on board, were treated to wonderful foods, and so enjoyed the leisurely traveling on this train.

We recently completed our 5th journey on Rovos, and the 2nd with our teenage children aged 14. We hope to do another in not too long! Our most recent trips was the Durban Safari (3 days) and the Namibia Safari (9 days). The Durban trip seems to be the least popular, but we found it up there with the other... More

The train is beautiful, the rooms are nicely appointed, the food is wonderful and the service impeccable. Traveling solo, I arrived in South Africa to experience Rovos Rail on the 2 night journey from Pretoria to Cape Town. My dressy clothes had been squished at the bottom of the carry on which I had been lugging around for almost a... More

To travel by Rovos Rail is a rare and wonderful experience. Once you have got your "train legs", the comfort and enjoyment is superlative. The food is superb, especially considering it is all prepared in the kitchen carriage, and the selection of wines, spirits and other drinks is wide. The beds are very comfortable, the bathrooms spacious. The level of... More

This train trip was so relaxing, and so incredibly luxurious. I would have liked to go on from Cape to Cairo ... except I would probably not have fitted in the cabin, with all the good food. For those who want to take it easy, as you travel. It's beyond fabulous to eat in the restored dining car, dressing for... More

We traveled from Pretoria to Victoria Falls on this train recently as part of a safari package. Without a doubt this is one of the experiences of a lifetime - old world charm and service, combined with modern food and wine - all while traveling through the ever-changing African landscape. The compartments are very comfortable and furnished in the Edwardian... More
