We took the train from Cape Town to Pretoria. The bedrooms, lounge cars and dining car were fabulous - comfortable, beautifully furnished and lots of attention to detail. The food - the same navy 'cook' others complain about - was quite fantastic, perfectly sized portions superbly prepared and presented. The wine list was also very good, certainly no complaints there.... more

My husband and I went on the Blue Train this summer (July 2009) and we had an amazing time. We absolutely loved every minute of it. The train is beautiful, the staff tend to your every need (without being intrusive) and the scenery is spectacular. We travelled from Pretoria to Cape Town and found it really relaxing and enjoyable. The... more

The Blue Train that travels from Pretoria ro Sun City should be renamed the "Booze Train". The quantity and quality of the wines and spirits served was the only positive aspect of the train trip. I had grand expectations of gourmet food, superb service, while travelling through beautiful African vistas; as adverised in their website and reported on the travel... more

We had read the comments about the Blue Train from previous reviews and were rather worried as this was supposed to be a highlight of our 3 week trip. However we were not at all disappointed and loved every minute. The train was beautifully maintained throughout and the staff were so friendly and courteous - nothing was too much trouble.... more

WOW!! This was a trip my husband had planned without my knowledge and what a treat. The train itself is akin to the Orient Express and we travelled from Pretoria to Cape Town which was a trip lasting about 27 hours. The cabins are quite small but perfectly formed with an en-suite shower and toilet. Its pure old fashioned luxury... more

The staff and service were excellent and the train really is very luxurious. The trip felt like a proper "event". I did not have high expectations of the food after looking some of the reviews - they were wrong! The food was great and the wine even better. If you like trundling on in luxury, drinking excellent wine and looking... more

We have recently returned from a 14 day tour of South Africa that included a trip on the famous South African Blue Train - akin to the more famous Orient Express but with the added luxury of shower/bath facilities. The suites certainly lived up to their reputation of luxury and comfort but unfortunately the claims of technical excellence and magical... more

My husband and I took the Blue Train to Cape Town in August. We had a perfectly lovely time. The suite was very nice, highly polished wood, flowers etc. The staff could not have been any nicer. The chef came by our suite as soon as we boarded and asked if I was OK with the menu for dinner. The... more

My partner and I and our parents decided to go for the Cape Town to Pretoria trip on the Blue Train. My parents having done this 2 previous times said that we must. And are we glad that we did. The arrival lounge is very decent and as soon as you step out of the taxi, you are looked after.... more

N.B we did Jo'burg to Cape Town Mixed reviews on this experience but we always say - It's what you make it! It seems a lot of money, for us it was just over £1000 for 27 hours entertainment, which is expensive but put it into proportion/perspective! Just over £1000 all inclusive of food drinks and service. That would be... more
