I spent a most of my childhood decembers in Wilderness so this place has a magical meaning for me. The lagoon is beautiful and a great place to take a walk or take the children to swim and play. And of course to take a cayak up this river will be great.
This is what England used to be like back in the 50s and 60s.
Nevertheless it has a pletora of great quality restaurants serving a variety of good food and modern beutifully appointed hotels and bed and breakfast accomodation.
There are a number of shops including a supermarket and a craft show every Frriday.

We found that this is the best beach in Wildeness. It is large, clean, relatively crowd free and good swimming beach. No facilities available to buy food and drinks though. So we just took our own. Great place to relax with kids
There's on the on side a gate where people charge you money, but if you walk in from the sea side it's for free... Great views by the way!
Wish we could have spent longer there. There are some lovely walks & water activities
The Wilderness Lagoon mouth leads to the beach and Ocean. It is a beautiful picnic area with grilling and is safe for children to play in shallow warm water. Here is also safe swimming. We hired a rowing boat / canoe and rowed up the winding river to the Kingfisher walk, through the "Djungle". This lagoon is a long stretch...
