I just spent the weekend camping at this Big 5 national park. It is an amazing place with spectacular geological features, plenty of different eco zones and most importantly the worlds largest colony of breeding Cape Griffon Vultures. It is well worth a visit. We camped at the Bontle camp site. The ablutions were spotlessly clean and the reception staff... More

We went there Feb. 24/25, 2012 and really enjoyed the Luxury Tent Camp. It is a "must try" because of the beautiful scenery of the Waterburg Mtns and fun being on the only watering hole, watching animals come in to drink. The little monkeys "swinging through" the camp, make it perfect for picture taking! We enjoyed our days driving and... More

All official literature on Marakele states implicitly that the park is a big 5 park and that the park has wild dogs, this turned out to be a lie. I was told on arrival that the park that the wild dog had shipped off for Botswana, the parks two male lion keep escaping, the buffalo have been removed and you... More

Visited the Tlopi Tented Camp which was fabulously wild. Both nights we were woken up my monkeys on the fixed structure roof and baboons trying to steal food. Being this close to nature may be as exciting for you as it is for me, and if so you will enjoy this place. The accommodation is good but it is not... More

We made a day trip To Marekele, the scenery beautiful up the mountain outstanding, the toilets disgusting, the one did not have a window or a door, top of the mountain is disgusting, filthy, people are now using the veld with paper all over the place. The amount of staff sitting in reception on the chairs & arms of chairs... More

Marakele is a superb game park in the Waterberg region of northern South Africa. The park is divided in two by a fence and gate. The first area has a camping ground but non of the big five. The second region abounds with elephants, various antelope species and also boasts cheetah and leopard amongst others. Tlopi Tented camp is in... More

THis is a fabulous little national park - a bit rundown, very basic, very few facilities and definitely far from luxurious. the place teems with insects, and I mean teems - lots of them, all shapes and colours, everywhere. But it's fabulously wild, and if you want to rough it slightly and see some real wilderness, this is the place... More
