There is not much to see besides people begging, selling and protests. It's interesting for 10 minutes and then move on.

If you go to Buenos Aires, you must see it, just to say that you did and take one photo.
I live six blocks from here and it is just a nice stick that is very difficult to drive around. You cannot go in and it is the site where many activities are so it makes it quite congested for the locals when a concert or protest is going on. In summery - it is just a monument that most...

It is one thing to see it from the street. It is another to walk around it and read the inscriptions.
But that´s it. As any monument, once you get the pic there is not much else to do. No stairs, no climbing it...
It's the center of the city. From here you can branch out into all directions. All kindsof transportation. :Buses, taxis, subway, combies, coaches, etc
On my recent trip to Buenos Aires I took a long walk down Avenida 9 de Julio starting at Avenida Sante Fe all the way down to Corrientes where I saw the Obelisk for my first time. It is very impressive in person as is all of Avenida 9 de Julio! I'd highly recommend checking out this attraction.
Nothing to see there. Just a big empty space people go to after football games. Worse yet, that ode to ugly was built by the taking down of colonial buildings, including the original Iglesia de San Nicolás. The obelisk took 2 months to be built. It too less to build this thing than to tear the colonial architecture building down.
The view of the Obelisk along the 9 de Julio avenue where it intersects Corrientes avenue is the landmark of BA, so you can't miss it. You can start here and walk down Corrientes towards Florida, or along 9 de Julio towards the Colon theater. A must.
The Obelisco (obelsik) was built in 1936 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of BA's first founding (yes, the founded the city twice), it is here that the Argentine flag first flew over the city in a Church (demolished to give way to 9 de Julio Avenue).
