We enjoyed a visit to Paolo Soleri's architectural experiement of Arcosanti very much. It's a very odd place in the sense that it would have been totally relevent and up-to-date in the 1970s but now it has a slightly sad and dated hippy commune feel complete with organic herbal teas and hand-made wind chimes. Arcosanti is an oasis in the desert. A grat place for single travelers or families with kids-not just a hotel or hostel but a very friendly community with very cheap rooms and excellent food - including vegetarian and vegan meals (and beer) while I was there. We stayed at the "Sky Suite" at Arcosanti during a recent visit to Arizona. What a great surprise! For those who don't know, Arcosanti (----) is an architectural project in the central desert between Phoenix and Flagstaff.
