We took the alternative tour around the glacier. We got to see the south wall, north wall, walked along the lake, took a boat trip to get up close and personal, walked on the platforms. You just don't realize how big the glacier is until you see it in person. We saw it calve! Amazing. more

We booked through Ramiro from Ripio Tourism and were delighted with an excellent day out. Everything ran seemlessly from our morning pickup, a good journey, a great guide and really enjoyable experience. The boat trip across the lake gave an excellent view of the south face of the glacier after disembarking we were able to leave our lunch and extra... more

Yes, this is an expensive outing, but for us, it was completely worth it. Our tour group was a reasonable size and we had many many informative guides (however, I suspect our guide-to-group ratio was higher than normal because we had an Argentine TV crew in our group). The hike to the glacier was a bit more intense than we... more

Hielo y Adventura unfairly take advantage of the a monopoly they hold on the Perito Moreno trek and by continually raising pricess of their tours. This is probably also why many say that their tours are overcrowded and they feel as if they are beingrushed through. After researching on the internet I found that most people paid $435 in 2008... more

We read rave reviews of the Big Ice tour with Hielo y Aventura, so we were really looking forward to it. We serendipitously trekked on a glacier once before in Alaska and had a great experience. We were disappointed about the tour for multiple reasons, despite being relatively easy-to-please travellers. This is the first negative review I've written! First, the... more

Hi, I just want to add some more info on the big ice trek. What the previous reviewer "whenismynextvacation" is very informative and very spot on. I was concerned about the level of fitness required for participating in the Big Ice Trek before going. I need not have. I am 28 yr old and physically fit but never go to... more

We travelled from El Calafate to Perito Moreno with the company Cal-Tur. The service was good, and it took us a little over 1hr to get there. Note there is a park entrance fee to be paid when you enter the park (60 pesos). This is not included in any tour fee, and is paid directly to the park rangers.... more

If you are going to Patagonia then you cannot miss seeing the Perito Moreno Glacier, it was absolutely incredible, we did the mini-trekking and thoroughly enjoyed it, the guides were terrific. Make sure to bring your camera with plenty of battery, weatherproof shoes and gloves and plan for an all day trip, we returned to the hotel around six. more

The Big Ice was tremendous. A lot of fun, tremendous scenery. But a couple of problems. First, the crampons were old, rigid, and no front points. Hielo y Aventura can surely manage to provide better gear. Secondly, I thought the guides were a bit aloof. These guys clearly do the same hike everyday, but I think they could have done... more

We were originally booked to do this tour, the Big Ice trek on the Perito Moreno, as part of a larger package. After our travel plans were set we learned the tour provider, Heilo y Aventura, decided that anyone over 65 cannot do this tour. My husband is over the age limit, but is an athletic backpacker and loves mountaineering.... more
