This is a very thorough museum of exhibits and artifacts about Native American culture and heritage. In all honesty, I didn't find it particularly interesting or captivating, as the subject material does not particularly interest me. Friendly, helpful docents greet you when you arrive and make sure your visit is pleasant. This is a great museum. We took a tour of the highlights of the collection, which took about an hour. With interactive, hands on exhibits on Southwestern culture and the arts, you must visit The Heard Museum for at least and hour or two. My family just got back from Scottsdale and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I would rank this museum up there with Chicago's Field Museum and Museum of Natural History. Highly recommend! more

After all the glowing reviews, here we were disappointed in the Heard. Perhaps we have been spoiled by the Washington DC Smithsonian's Indian museum which handles huge crowds with aplomb in its Native American cuisine cafeteria. The Heard Museum is housed in a lovely Southwestern style building surrounding an open courtyard. Their main focus is the art and culture of the native people of the area.
