When I was teaching, I tried to combine a trip to the Mining & Mineral Museum with a trip to the Capitol Museum. We would study Arizona and its history in Social Studies and Rocks and the history of mining in Arizona in Science. This trip culminated our studies. EXCELLENT!
Great place to take the kids on a hot summer day. Informative yet fun for all ages and you learn something new along the way about Arizona and the rocks beneath your feet. Hands on makes it good for little ones too.
Believe it or not, it wasn't tourism or a real estate boom that built Arizona. It was mining. Of course, me being a geologist I get more excited that most about their fantastic minerals collection!

There is a VERY intersting "dinner table" where all the food is made out of rocks. There is a portion of the museum that is slanted toward premoting mining, but it was...
