One hole filled with water in the midst of a desert, and a small Indian community living around it with a thriving agricultural base. Quite well conserved, complete with remains of houses in the rock rim; you can't access those, which is a good thing... Worth a visit.

Montezuma Well National Monument is north of Montezuma's Castle National Monument by about two miles as the crow flies. It will take you about fifteen minutes by car. Both places are worth visiting. The Well is a special place with desert trails, rich desert flora, rugged landscape, and a large, deep spring-fed pool that served as a life-source for ancient... More

This is a fascinating place. 1.5 million gallons of water runs from this into a river below every day! The Sinagua culture irrigated and drew their water from this "well" Hard to believe this is in the desert! Make sure you walk down to the river area and see where the water comes out to the river.

Amazing spot. Nice short walk to the edge but you really want to go down to the bottom. Lots of steps. The water runs out into the wall then you can climb out of the well and go see where it comes out on the outside. Very nice.

Along the Banks of Beaver Creek, this hidden little gem offers cliff dwellings, a great view of a different kind of a 'well', several hundred feet across and deep. There are nice shady spots to enjoy on hot summer days.

Make sure you take the walk down to the creek and see the ditch that drains the "well", a nica place to cool off.

The ruins are amazingly in tact and if you walk all of it you will be amazed at how peaceful and tranquil this mini hike is. The well is actually a sinkhole and you take a walk up some steps from the parking lot to get to it. Once there you can take a path down to see a ruin... More

The ruins are fairly small, but the information on the sinkhole, the water flow (1.5 million gallons a day!), and water chemistry is unique. Easy trails with excellent steps. Make sure you go down to see the ruin at the bottom. Is that really an advertisement from 1818? The area where the water comes out into a canal is relaxing... More

Nice, though strenuous, walk if you do it all. Interesting natural formation of a collapsed cavern filled with water. A few small cliff dwellings in the cliffs around the water hole (I guess 900 hundred years ago it would have been advertised as "water-front property"). This is a small archaeological site compared to the other, better-known ones around the Verde... More

The "Well" is actually a large sinkhole, but that is only the scientific title for the site. The well is situated at the top of a hill with comfortable steps leading to the top where there is an observation area to gaze down into the water. The remains of several cliff dwellings are located to the left on the wall... More
