You can walk about the old cells and prison yards - and even in the winter heat you're thinking, this would not have been a pleasant place to be locked up. I enjoyed reading about the prisoner's stories, and seeing their mugshots. It makes those old westerns seem just a little bit more grounded in reality... I was also intrigued... more

When you first enter you're led into an unassuming museum presenting the prisons history; thoughts of "is this it?" begin to wash over you until you open the back door and discover... An old beat up and mean looking prison. The Yuma prison is a slice of old west and really illustrates what it meant to be locked up back... more

On a recent visit to San Diego, our family took a road trip to Yuma, AZ basically to say that we had been to Arizona. We found the Territorial Prison State Park to offer up a lot of history. The area surrounding the park was beautiful with lots of native plants. Overall, the visit to Yuma was a pleasant one. more

The description that only ruins are left is very misleading. The prison is very fascinating with actual jail cells and bunks that you can go into. It is very well kept. Also very spooky is the dark cell where they put prisoners in isolation. This is an excellent stop for families with children. I took my five year old daughter... more

We were pleasantly shocked at how much there was to see and experience. Just expected to see some ruins but the grounds and museum were great. Want to take the grandkids there this summer to see a unique part of the history of the southwest. more
