The monument at Newgrange is simply breathtaking. Not only does its sheer scale stop you in your tracks but the condition that the tomb is in is equally mind boggling. The guided tour was very informative and made the site even more special, as its history was revealed. There is quite a lot of walking available before the bus journey... more

Driving in on our own, the Newgrange site is well organized with a pathway system leading to the visitor center and then out to timely buses to the various locations. You receive a numbered tour- get there as early as possible. I was floored by what they do at Newgrange- simulating the solstice light shining into the real passage tomb... more

Just go, and take in the whole experience-take your time in both the excellent visitor centre and the site itself and walk right around the mound.-I've been there twice and each time I find the experience totally uplifting. Just consider the history of the place and the people that built it 5000 years ago. Its actually amazing that Stonehenge gets... more

It's almost the norm these days for visitors to be notified that photography, or video recording is not allowed. So you might be glad to know that photography is allowed within the Bru na Boyne visitor centre itself, which is very interesting by the way, and photography if fine outside the burial chamber itself. Photography is only disallowed within the... more

That's right and what is more amazing is that the same people made them .Upon research both styles of burial chambers have a channelled hole that illuminates the tombs during the Equinox. This begs the question were the Phoenicians Celts or were the Celts Phoenicians.I think the Vikings might have played into this question ,too. Visit the Mounds .You'll be glad... more

I have visited Newgrange a number of times, first as a child on a school trip before the opening of the Bru na Boyne visitor centre and twice recently since its opening. Each time it is a very marked experience which I have enjoyed and somewhere I recommend every visitor of Ireland to visit, as they stand truly amongst history.... more

I took the Mary Gibbons tour to Newgrange on June 23 2009. The bus stopped just across the street from the hotel. I paid the 35 euros when I boarded the bus. It was a nice comfortable bus with plenty of room. We toured the Hill of Tara and then on to Newgrange and the Visitors Center. They had no... more

Well worth the visit, one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland. We've never experienced such a well organised attraction. Get there early in the day to avoid the crowds. more

We almost didn't do this. It was a last minute addition to our itinerary on our last day. So glad we went. Very interesting and awe inspiring. Can't believe it is 5000 years old! We did both the Newgrange and the Knowth tours. Do the Knowth first since you can't go all the way in that passage. Newgrange is the... more

Like a few others on our tour, we had difficulty finding the Newgrange site - the visitor centre is accessed from the N2, not the N51 as may appear on the map. We arrived late in the day and were lucky enough to score a place on the last tour to Newgrange. As we travelled in the off season, Knowth... more
