The Railway Touring Company's tour 'The Bath & Bristol' - Saturday, 24 March 2012 The brochure called this trip 'a relaxing experience providing the perfect escape from all the hustle and bustle of modern life'. We paid considerabley extra to upgrade to first class accommodation. The tour ran between Three Bridges & Bath Spa/Bristol Temple Mead. We joined the train... More

The trip did not start well as there was no heating in our carriage but we expected it to be fixed overnight in Edinburgh. Sadly this was not the case. The problem was exacerbated by the toilets failing to flush, due to lack of water, midway between York and Edinburgh. On the second day we had no lighting and for... More

A great day out, comfortable and so different. Despite a long delay due to a signal problem at Peterborough we both enjoyed the experience. So much better than sitting on a motorway!

Tours by the RTC are meant for people who are really interested in rolling stock and stations as much as scenery and destinations.Enjoyment is therefore just as great being "stuck" somewhere as hurtling through the countryside! I have travelled many times to Scotland with them and always had a wonderful time - mainly due to interesting people on board the... More

I booked the trip to Bath/Bristol from Waterloo in March to treat myself to something different for my birthday. Plumped for the Premier seating and service. All I can say is it was marvellous. The onboard staff were attentive and good at their job. It made for a very special experience. Thoroughly reccommended.

I had and always looked at RTC's adverts in the local 'Advertiser' and thought 'nice day out, but a bit pricey'. Then I saw the advert for 'Auld Reekie', 24th March 2012, travelling to Edinburgh, returning behind the fabulous 'Brit', 70013, and I couldn't resist it any more. Heck, I can afford it, and anyway, you don't do it every... More

Travelling on the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express', steam hauled by 'Oliver Cromwell' from Carnforth to Carlisle over Shap and returning via the Settle and Carlisle was a real treat for my 60th birthday. Timing was immaculate, the engine performed faultlessly throughout, the scenery was superb as was the weather and the service on board was excellent. We travelled premier class, being... More

We had two enjoyable trips in 2011 - one to Weymouth and one to Swanage. Both were enjoyable with good service (premier dining) and food, provided by The Gravy Train. The good natured crew was basically the same. The administration isn't perfect - and some contributors seem to have had a lot of problems. Our last trip was changed last... More

This was our second day trip with RTC, the first being last summer, and both delivered exactly what was expected. We travelled standard class, so can't review the catering, but the staff were friendly, (although the raffle selling over made up dollybirds appeared somewhat out of place). With steam locos being very complex and old machinery not to mention the... More
