On the third day, our guide Juan was missing when we as a group were up at 5 am, ready to leave for the last day of the tour. The guide showed up at 7.30 am (temperature minus 10 degrees) and was drunk as never before. Ofcourse he was in no condition to drive, so after all kinds of hussle... more

We booked a three day trip around the Salar de Uyuni going from Uyuni to San Pedro de Atacama. We chose the travel agency "Estrella del Sur" as we had a recommendation from a friend. We booked the tour and payed more thant the average (600bs) as we really wanted to have a safe car and good experience. But unfortunately... more

Avoid the three day trip: it's unprofessionally organised, involves too much road time and is overpriced. Instead do the one day trip to the salt plains and negotiate - you should be able to knock a fair few quid off the price. What you miss out of those two other days (lakes, lakes, more lakes etc) you can see elsewhere... more

Back from the 4 day trip to the Salar of Uyuni, we have mixed feelings, and we would mostly recommend it only if you do the 3 day trip (coming from San Pedro de Atacama continuing into Bolivia, or coming from Uyuni continuing into Chile), because the 1 and ½ day return trip to San Pedro is dangerous, boring, poorly... more

We booked Colque since they seemed to offer what we wanted... unforunately just after we visited the gorgeous canyon, our driver lost control over our vehicle... our car went from right set of wheel over to the left set of wheels, we hit a kind of sand curb and finally tipped over. :-( We were so lucky to have landed... more

Uyuni was the most amazing place I've ever seen. Bolivia is a wonderful country, friendship people, but the Salar is unforgetttable. However, it's necessarily to get an agency trip and if you have bad luck as I am, the trip depends on you. If I am on the road, I'm happy and inttent to enjoy everything. Before travelling, I do... more

The 3 day jeep safari travels through the Altiplano between Chile (San Pedro de Atacama) and Bolivia (Uyuni). You get to see loads of coloured lakes, flamingoes, geysers and the salt plains. It´s a great experience and well worth doing. We booked the tour from San Pedro to Uyuni with a company called Estrella del Sur. In San Pedro there... more

This was one of the highlights of our year away. A wonderful amazing, unique place. A hot outdoor bath, the flamingos, the ghost town, the island on the salt flats, the rock formations and much more. Totally amazing. We had a a really great group which really made it which was just as well because what Colque tours provided was... more

My 4 day jeep tour of SW Bolivia´s national reserves and the Salar de Uyuni salt flats was the best money I´ve spent during my 7 months of travel so far around South America. The company I went with, Tupiza Tours, were absolutely brilliant - great driving, an excellent cook accompanying us, great humour and professionalism. I left from Tupiza... more

Imagine a completely flat desert of pure white. The only objects you can see are the mountains on the horizon around you. And your jeep. Which is the only vehicle able to navigate this utterly surreal and bewitching landscape. You are standing on the world's largest salt lake. But it feels more like you're a tiny atom on a huge,... more
