After visiting the main deity dont forget to check out the Thousand pillar Hall and the adjoining gopuram, the only one painted white .It is very quiet and we enjoyed the sculpture and workmanship of such a huge mandapam. Also buy the ticket (10Rs) to get to the view point point situated right inside the complex.I felt the 250 Rs ticket... We knew beforehand that this is the largest Hindu temple in the world, but boy, is it really-really big! Actually it is like a separate city by itself. We went there in the evening and the morning, spent close to four hours and still couldn't see everything. I must disagree with a previous comment - this is a temple worth... More

Nice temple lots of photo ops - can't go too far in as a non-Hindu but worth a visit.

The area in which the temple was built was really jaw-dropping. The interior of the temple was pretty beautiful and awesome with sculptures and architecture. A must-visit temple at least once in a life time. The only thing that made me wonder was why foreigners are not allowed inside the sanctum despite their keen interest in architecture and hinduism

Felt good after the visit. Just made it at closing time 8.30pm. With housekeeping it will be a great place. Lighting was low.

Liked: architecture, cleanliness Disliked: Beggars, the looooong lines for darshan, the abusive and egotistic ushers in the sanctum who manhandled and pushed pilgrims. Get rid of those guys!

Considering how many "over the top" temples there are in Tamil Nadu, I think Sri Ranganathaswamy does NOT rank up there with the likes of those in Madurai, Thanjavur, or Chidambaran. However... from the point of view that it is a HUGE temple complex that even encloses part of the town itself, it is certainly different than most other temples... More
