DO not dry sift, the soil has to much clay to dry sift, save yourself the trouble and wet sift only.Don't really care for the commercial miners out on the field, they dig 10 by 10 foot holes and that really doesn't leave much for the casual tourist. we dug down about 4 foot and just found rocks.about half the people there took... more

If you go thinking you will strike it rich, you are going to have a horrible time. We went with the mindset that it was an adventure and we met some very interesting people and had some wonderful conversations. A woman next to us found a 1/2 carat canary yellow diamond, so they are out there!! We found jasper, amethyst... more

It was a fun and hot day in July! Wished we had found at least one decent gem, even if it wasn't a diamond. The dry digging is a waste of time - only luck is with sluicing.....and then plan to dig and filter a lot. Be sure you have a good shovel and Home Depot buckets when you go... more

When my husband & I first got there, we were very excited. A new adventure. But after several days of talking with miners that have rented spots at the mine, we found out that it was nothing but a tourist attraction. In order to find Diamonds you have to digg 6 to 8 feet down, look for certain soul, etc... more

This was our first visit to Arkansas and I must say that I had a wonderful time and hope to be back soon. Five of us made the road trip from Wisconsin in my brothers RV, and arrived at the Crater of Diamonds SP on March 29, 2009. After setting up in the campground, we went to check out the... more

Muddy field that has been mined and plowed for decades. Masses of people. Less than 2 diamonds found a day. Mostly small and inferior grade. Long drive. High entrance fees. more

if you are planning on going, book the Queen of Diamonds in Murfreesboro AR. about the nicest and closet hotel you will find. I was very comfortable there. Just down the road is a little set up with a sign 'WORLD'S BEST BBQ.' If it isnt, it is close. I was impressed. Ive travelled to Memphis , KC, NC ,... more

Yes, there are diamonds there, but there is a little skill and alot of luck involved. We took the kids, which is rare due their attitude that everything thats not a video game is boring. They actually had a good time, and you can let them roam without worrying they will get hurt or lost. Afterall, it's just a big... more

We actually didn't expect to find a diamond, but it sure would have been nice! The fields needed to be plowed or they needed to rent out jack-hammers instead of garden trowels! LOL! I would suggest a call to the park before going to dig to see if they have plowed the fields - that would certainly help! The ground... more

This was the whole reason we went to Arkansas! They say you have better luck if its raining. We found no diamonds but it was fun digging for them and collecting pretty rocks which you can then have a specialist go through and tell you if you got anything good! They have other things than just diamonds. They have Amethyst... more
