You have to choose carefully your mode of transport. The horse charriot from the main entrance to the Khazneh will shake you so well- you will be relieved once there, but you will miss most of the sceinery walking down The Siq. Petra is a the new 7 Wonder of the World and one can easily see why this archaeological site has achieved such recognition . The Nabataeans created Petra by carving out their ancient city from the massive sandstone rock face ; its truly an all inspiring staggering achievement. It took 536 years for Petra to be rediscovered by Johann Burckhardt... more

Petra is everything that people say, and more. The first glimpse of the Treasury, the awe inspiring main area, the monastary high on the hill....just go, OK! Note on animals: As an animal lover I was wary after reading some of the reviews, but I think the people at Petra have also been reading them, for the animals are all... more

Believe me I have seen far worse in Morrocco and Egypt!!! This place equals the impressiveness of the pyramids but because of the hidden away location makes it all the more... more

Such a shame, my husband and I had really been looking forward to this trip but it was totally ruined for us by the most appalling conditions that the horses are working in. Masses of fat and lazy tourists sitting on their backsides getting a lift through the siq by totally exhausted horses that are being thrashed up and down... more

I was recently undergoing a charity cycle from the Dead Sea to the Red Sea with 98 other women. We had a day of in the middle of our cycle and visited Petra. I have travelled extensively but I have never been so impressed or overwhelmed by anything I have seen before. The sheer size and exquisite carvings on many... more

when you finally reach the treasury you realise the walk was well worth it! the walk through the gorge is lengthy but fascinating with overhanging cliffs and strange rock formations. the treasury itself carved out of the red rock is amazing and the museum beyond it has many interesting artefacts. a good guide is an advantage and there are horse-drawn... more
