Maropeng is the "Place of our origins" or, the "Cradle of humankind". It is an area of many limestone caves and paleontologist diggings. Because the earliest fossils of human were found here, it has been declared a World Heritage Site. For this alone, it must be seen and explored. The modern Visitor Centre has a theme-park type boat ride through... More

Maropeng, in a nutshell, is about the pre-history of earth and mankind, presented in a fun and entertaining way. The building that houses the visitor centre is quite unique, and symbolises both the old and new in mankind's journey. Don't miss the introductory guided tour included in the price - you'll lose out on a lot of interesting information. Much... More

Lots of food for thought at the Maropeng Visitors Centre in the Cradle of Humankind. Learn about our past, present and future in well laid-out exhibitions that are both educational and fun for children. Adults will find a lot to think about too! To get the full benefit, don't rush the experience. You may need to go back more than... More

Good clean fun, but it is more geared towards children. Well run and unique, I was surprised to see that it had very few visitors. Ticket prices are a bit expensive- buy the combo ticket.

Me and my mother visited he Visitor Centre as part of a roadtrip. From the interesting setup of the building (looks like it has grown out of the ground), to the beautiful surroundings, it was a great experience. There are many interactive displays (great for children and very educational, detailing some of the earths events and geographical information), and real... More

I would say this is for families who are interested in where we came from. Lots of fossils and exhibits. I'm not really sure of the function of the water ride though (although my daughter loved it so much she had us do it again!). I would say that under 6 or 7 years old, kids are going to be... More

Going back in time through the exhibits was interesting a 'boat' journey through time was very realistic and informative. There was a gift shop and refreshments available. The area was clean and in pleasant surroundings. The Staff were polite and helpful.
