Well worth the trip up to the Palamidi Castle. The castle itself is a photographer's dream - we were there in April and the purple flowers against the old stone walls were beautiful. And there's a great panoramic view of Nafplio and the sea below. A must-see in Nafplio -- but go either in the early morning or late afternoon.... More

It is worth the effort to climb the steps to the Castle--about 1000 of them, just to the first level. The views are incredible. One hint, you can drive up the back, if you don't want to climb the stairs.

The walk up the steps of this castle is well worth it as you get to see views of the Nafplio and the castle that you will miss if you drive by car. Explore all aspects of the castle including Kolokotronis' cell.

It doesn’t matter whether there are “857”, “999” or “over a thousand” steps to reach the top of the fortress – we were never going to climb it. If you did, good for you! We took the road round the back and drove to the castle gate. However, no matter how you get to the top, the view remains the... More

Amazing view, interesting history, very difficult to climb on foot, better walk on your way down and enjoy the view.

This is a highlight of a visit to Nafplion. The 890 step climb is taxing but, if you are in fairly good shape, eminently doable. Wimps (such as my wife and daughter, ahem), can take a local tour bus to the top and still be rewarded with a maze of fortress structures and a jaw-dropping view of the city and... More

The views were tremendous; great gloomy dungeons; refreshing approach to "Elf an safety" (non-existent); achy calves from descending the stairs but a sense of achievement.

This is a don't miss attraction in Nafplio. Though taxi service to the top is an option, my husband and I climbed all 850+ steps to the top - scary but so rewarding for the views you capture on your camera. The fortress is very well maintained and it gives you an excellent bit of insight into the planning and... More
